Jetstar Baggage Guide

Carrier guides 207 words Updated July 2026

Jetstar Australia and Jetstar Asia baggage rules, fare bundles, and Club Jetstar economics.

Jetstar baggage model

Jetstar is the LCC subsidiary of Qantas with operations in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam. The Starter fare includes a 7 kg cabin allowance (one cabin bag + one personal item combined). Hold bags are extra; the FlexiBiz, Plus, Max, and FlexiBiz bundles include progressively more.

Cabin allowance

Cabin: combined 7 kg across one cabin bag (56 × 36 × 23 cm) and one personal item. Carry-on weight is enforced at major Australian and Asian gates. The 7 kg cap is identical to AirAsia and similarly tight; pack with a scale.

Hold baggage

Hold baggage is sold in 15/20/25/30/40 kg increments. Typical online prices: 15 kg AUD 25–55 short-haul, AUD 50–80 long-haul. Adding bags after booking costs more; gate-side bag fees are punitive (AUD 65+ per piece).

Fare bundles and Club Jetstar

Plus bundle adds 20 kg + seat selection + flight changes. Max bundle adds 30 kg + meal. Club Jetstar (AUD 49.50/year) gives discounted bundles and exclusive sales; it pays for itself at 2–3 trips with bags.

Jetstar-specific gotchas

  • Jetstar Asia (Singapore-based) and Jetstar Japan are technically separate operators, bag-through rules vary.
  • Bag drop typically closes 40 minutes before departure for short-haul Australian domestic.
  • Jetstar's on-time performance is mid-pack relative to Qantas mainline.
  • Earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points on Jetstar bookings if you opt in at booking; useful for mainline status earning.
