Norwegian Baggage Guide

Norwegian Air Shuttle's short-haul baggage rules and the cheap-flight quirks for Scandinavia.

Norwegian baggage model

Norwegian Air Shuttle is the largest LCC in Scandinavia, focused on intra-European short-haul after exiting long-haul in 2021. The base LowFare includes one cabin bag (55 × 40 × 23 cm) up to 10 kg plus one personal item. This is dramatically more generous than Ryanair or Wizz on the cabin side. Hold bag costs extra.

Hold bag pricing

Hold bag (20 kg) is typically NOK 199–449 (EUR 17–40) at booking, more after. Bag drop closes 45 minutes before departure on most short-haul flights. Norwegian Reward members get a small discount on bags.

Norwegian Reward

Norwegian Reward is free; the Norwegian credit card (in Nordic markets) earns CashPoints redeemable on flights. Status earns priority boarding and earlier check-in. Useful for anyone flying intra-Scandinavia regularly.

Norwegian-specific gotchas

  • Norwegian operates two carriers, Norwegian (NAX) for short-haul and a separate fully-owned long-haul restart, Norse Atlantic, with different rules. Confirm which you are booking.
  • On-time performance is solid; the cabin product is modern (Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet).
  • Norwegian and Widerøe are the major intra-Scandinavian options; Wizz exited the market in 2023.
  • Cabin allowance enforcement is moderate, the 10 kg cap is sometimes weighed at the gate at OSL and ARN on full flights.
