Sun Country Airlines Baggage Guide

Carrier guides 210 words Updated July 2026

Sun Country fees, Saver vs Bundle pricing, and how the carrier compares to Spirit and Frontier.

Sun Country baggage model

Sun Country is a Minneapolis-based hybrid carrier, cheaper than the US legacies but slightly more inclusive than Spirit or Frontier. The Saver fare includes a personal item; carry-on, checked bags, and seat selection are extra. The Bundle fare adds a checked bag, carry-on, and a seat for a fixed up-charge that is usually cheaper than buying each item separately.

Personal item and carry-on

Personal item: 17 × 13 × 9 inches. Carry-on: 24 × 16 × 11 inches (slightly more generous than Spirit). Carry-on costs USD 30–55 online; gate fee is USD 79.

Checked baggage

First checked bag: USD 30–50 online. Second: USD 50–75. Overweight (51–70 lb): USD 100. Sun Country accepts bags up to 100 lb at the punitive rate.

Sun Country Rewards

Sun Country Rewards is free, with status tiers earned by flight segments. Status earns priority boarding, free Bundle inclusions, and earlier check-in windows. Sun Country Visa adds a 1-bag waiver for the cardholder on every flight.

Sun Country-specific gotchas

  • Sun Country has one of the smallest US LCC networks; the Minneapolis hub is dominant.
  • The carrier also operates charter and freight flights for Amazon, schedule changes to scheduled service can come with little warning.
  • Bundle fare almost always saves money if you would buy a bag and a seat anyway.
  • Bag drop closes 45 minutes before departure on most flights.
