Volaris cabin allowance, hold-bag fees, V-Club membership, and the Mexico-US route quirks.
Volaris baggage model
Volaris is Mexico's largest LCC with extensive US-Mexico, intra-Mexico, and Central American service. The base 'Clean' fare includes one personal item (45 × 35 × 25 cm) and one carry-on bag (55 × 40 × 25 cm) up to a combined 10 kg. This is more generous than US ULCCs and similar to easyJet for cabin allowance.
Hold baggage
Hold bags are extra. First checked bag: USD 25–45 online (international), USD 18–40 (domestic Mexico). Second bag is similar. Overweight (over 25 kg): USD 80 per bag. Oversize (over 158 linear cm): USD 80.
Volaris frequently runs limited-time bag promotions through the Volaris app, check before paying online.
V-Club membership
V-Club (MXN 599 / USD 35 per year) gives discounted base fares (typically MXN 50–250 off per flight) and 10% off bags. It pays for itself in 2–3 round-trips for occasional Mexico flyers.
Volaris-specific gotchas
- Volaris is the only major Mexican LCC fully meshed with US bag-fee rules. Bring a luggage scale.
- Free seat selection at check-in is genuinely free if you do not pre-buy; pre-buying is only worth it for a window or aisle on a 4-hour flight.
- Volaris operates lots of small Mexican secondary airports (Toluca, Hermosillo, Guadalajara T2). Confirm your terminal, connections via Mexico City are usually at AICM T1.
- Volaris' on-time record is mid-pack for the region; build buffer into onward bus or driving connections.
